Dr. Liang-Fang “Liang” Chao

Parent/High-tech Engineer/Community Advocate

Candidate for Cupertino Union School District Board

As the mother of two children in Cupertino schools, a school volunteer and a community advocate, I’m running for CUSD school board to strengthen leadership for students, teachers and parents. Originally from Taiwan, I understand the perspectives of our diverse community. I earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Princeton University, and have taught at universities in the U.S. and Germany. After a career in high-tech, I now devote my time to education and community issues. I serve on the board of a nonprofit for outdoor science education, and work actively with parents across school districts to improve student learning and health.

I will…

1. Promote transparency on Board decisions and restore trust in district leadership.

2. Align district resources to strategic priorities and student performance, instead of highly paid consultants and unproven programs.

3. Ensure accountability over the spending of Measure H and tax dollars on school infrastructure.

4. Require long-term planning and community engagement to lessen crises in budgets, overcrowding, and traffic safety.

5. Explore innovative and responsible solutions to prepare our students for the future.

I ask for your support. Together we can build a better CUSD with student-centered decisions, fiscal accountability, and responsible leadership.
